Retreat Agenda at a Glance

This retreat is not a workshop about grief.

It is an immersion into the living landscape of transformation that grief makes possible — designed to meet you exactly where you are, and walk gently with you forward.

Evening Prior  ·  Sunday, October 25

A gentle beginning by the water

6:00 – 7:30 PM

Welcome Gathering by the Firepit

Light appetizers and refreshments, the sound of the ocean, and the first circle of strangers who will not be strangers for long. Share your name, your person, and one word for where you are. Set your intentions for the days ahead.

Day One  ·  Monday, October 26

Entering the Sanctuaries · Threshold · Identity · Compassion

Morning

Arriving & Finding Your Place

A carefully prepared welcome — your participant guide, your memory book kit, coffee and flowers, and an invitation to let the ocean meet you before the work begins.

Mid-Morning

Opening Circle: Where Are You Right Now?

Map your grief. Place a stone where you are today — not where you think you should be. Hear the framework that will hold you for the next two days, and discover you are not behind.

Mid-Morning

Nature Walk & The Object That Speaks

Walk the shore in silence and let the natural world show you something. Bring back what you find. It will travel with you through the retreat.

Afternoon

Memory Book — Session One: Who They Were

Not their death. Their life. The dandelion bucket. The way they laughed. The thing they couldn’t stop talking about. Begin crafting the tribute that will go home with you — and that you’ll continue for years.

Afternoon

The Letter We Didn’t Write

Meet the anger, the guilt, and the unfinished business — gently, on your own terms. Write the letter you never sent. Choose what to do with it.

Afternoon

Somatic Healing — Grief in the Body

Breathwork, gentle movement, and a loving-kindness meditation. Your grief lives in your nervous system, not only your mind. This is where we begin to release what the body has been holding.

Evening

The Honoring Ceremony: A Galaxy of Dandelions

By firelight, at the water’s edge. Speak your loved one’s name aloud. Place what is sacred on the altar. Receive your seed packet. Something shifts here that is difficult to put into words — and doesn’t need to be.

Day Two  ·  Tuesday, October 27

Continuing Bonds & The Return · Remembering · Joy · Becoming

Morning

Optional: Dawn Walk & Morning Pages

The sun rises over the water. Walk or write as it comes up. Something always surfaces in that quiet.

Mid-Morning

Memory Book — Session Two: The Continuing Bond

The signs. The ordinary moments you keep returning to. The drives in the dark, the morning coffee, the texts about nothing. Who you were before, and who you are now. How they changed you.

Mid-Morning

The Ripple Effect: Their Life Continues to Matter

The seeds they planted that are still growing. The lives they touched that you only discovered after they were gone. Their legacy — not as an ending, but as a living thing.

Mid-Morning

Integration Walk: Seeds

Walk with your natural object and the question that has been waiting: what is growing in you now that couldn’t have grown before this loss?

Afternoon

The Gihugic Moment: When Joy Returns Without Permission

A word Greg invented. A laugh that arrived before the grief could get there first. We’ll talk about what to do when joy shows up — and what to say to the guilt that follows.

Afternoon

Memory Book — Final Session: Becoming Sanctuary

The last pages look forward. Who are you becoming? What would they say about the life you are building? Write your Becoming Sanctuary statement — and if you are willing, write a letter to the griever who will come after you.

Late Afternoon

Closing Ceremony: Scattering Seeds Forward

Return to your map. Move your stone. Speak your loved one’s name one more time, and one thing you are carrying forward. Receive the final reading. Leave different than you arrived.

“You are already becoming. You have been becoming since the moment grief first broke you open. You are not who you were. You are not lost. You are on the path. And the path is sacred.” — Becoming Sanctuary
